Spin the Wheel

Weighted-segment wheel with pointer physics. Best for prize-tier reveals. Plus custom wheel-surround upload spec.

Updated 14 May 20265 min read

Spin the Wheel is a weighted-segment wheel: customers tap the spin button, the wheel decelerates with pointer physics, and lands on the prize segment the backend selected. Best when you want to visually reveal a spread of prize tiers.

How it’s wired

  • SVG segments rendered dynamically from your prize ladder. Up to 12 segments before legibility breaks.
  • Friction curve matches the visual rotation to a deterministic stop. The wheel never chooses the prize, it always animates to it.
  • Spinner audio (whirr + clack) optional via a Settings toggle.

When to use it

  • Competitions with a clear prize ladder of 4–8 tiers. The wheel visually communicates the spread (small slices = small prizes, big slices = no-win).
  • Mood: arcade, fairground, game-show. Tonally bigger than coin flip or scratch.

UX notes

  • Min 4 segments to read well. Below that, the wheel feels underused.
  • Label segments with prize value, not generic “Prize A”. Customers want to see what they could win.
  • Skip button: appears after first spin. Customers with multiple tickets can skip remaining spins and get aggregate results.

Custom wheel surround (optional)

Most operators stick with our default wheel chrome, and for good reason: it works, it’s fast, customers don’t care. If you want a branded surround (e.g. your logo at the centre, custom rim treatment), upload it under Admin → Brand → Game assets → Spin the Wheel surround.

  • Format: PNG, transparent background.
  • Dimensions:1400×1400 pixels (square). The renderer scales it down for mobile; uploading larger doesn’t help.
  • File size: under 200 KB. Larger files add perceptible load lag on the game opening.
  • Layout: design assumes a circular cutout in the centre (your wheel renders inside it). Aim for a ~600px-radius transparent disc in the middle of the canvas.

Once uploaded, the surround applies to every spin-the-wheel competition. To revert, just delete the asset from Brand → Game assets.
